How does the digitisation of the sewerage system by means of network technology work?
The measuring technology installed in the sewer collects important data such as the current flow rate of the wastewater at key points. This data is forwarded from large and small control cabinets to the central control centre. The network technology is ultimately responsible for this forwarding – it connects the hardware with the software, so to speak. In the case of the sewerage system, the hardware consists of measurement technology as well as weirs and aggregates, which belong to the fixed installations. The software consists of sophisticated algorithms that can make automated decisions in firmly defined processes and forward corresponding control commands to the hardware. In modern, automated sewer networks, humans only need to intervene when specific problems arise. And here, too, the algorithms sound the alarm at an early stage thanks to network technology, so that action can usually be taken in good time before major damage can occur.
